After our three day and two night journey by car and a crossing on water courtesy Spirit of Tasmania, we made it safely to our new home in Binalong Bay in the north eastern coast of Tasmania.
The day we arrived our friends who live in Bicheno, a town south of us – around an hour and a half a way…. rang to say they were bringing lunch! They arrived promptly at 12 noon with fresh oysters from Swanport and thank goodness they brought their own oyster shucker as ours had been taken from the utensil drawer by one of our holiday tenants.
There is an excellent butcher in Bicheno who does his own smoking so I had to be an opportunist and ask our friends to call in and buy some supplies. I’ve already logged into the mentality of thinking ahead here, when you cannot find everything you want so easily as in the big city.
Arriving on Wednesday meant that we could get some wood fired bread from a baker in St Helens – he only bakes for Wednesday, Friday and Saturdays. We were off to a good start in finding at least 75% Tasmanian food during our sojourn in Tasmania.
We have the phone connected but the ADSL is not on so the updates will be irregular until we have that on, it has been promised for next week so I am optomistic!! Roz
